History of the New Vision Choir

The New Vision Choir was organized in 1995 under the guidance of "J" Edgar Boyd, Senior Pastor of Bethel AME Church. The choir is a combination of the Church's Gospel Choir and the Voices of Inspiration, two of Bethel's most renown choirs whose membership had begun to decline.

The Choir's name New Vision was inspired by the members hopes and desires of bringing to the Church a renewed spirit of Gospel Music and a new awareness of the sounds of the traditional gospel music combined with the new wave sounds of Gospel Music being performed by artists like Kirk Franklin, Walter & Edwin Hawkins and the Love Center Mass Choir, John P. Kee and Richard Smallwood.

The New Vision Choir will be celebrating their 7th Anniversary with an Annual Program on March 17, 2002 at 3:30 PM here at Bethel.

Lenora Jones Stovall was the first musician for over six years with the Choir. Also Maveric Howard was the organist for the choir for over three years. The present Musical Staff consist of Darryl Norman, Director: Thomas Cryer, Keyboard; Alberta Jackson, Lead Guitar; Damon Rowden, Bass Guitar and Gregory Williams, Drummer.

The New Vision Choir invites anyone who has desire to help "Spread The Word of God Through Song" to join our organization. We meet every Tuesday Night at 7:00 PM at Bethel AME Church.

Please feel free to come and celebrate God's Spirit in Song with us.
