History of the Medical Task Force

The Nurse's Task Force was started on May 13, 1978, by the late Reverend Jerry Ford at Bethel AME Church at 916 Laguna Street in San Francisco, CA.

Mrs. Ella Dee Simpton organized the group and served faithfully from 1978-1983 for five years as President. The other charter members were Mrs. Mazie Williams, as Vice-President, Mrs. Amanda Jones, Recording Secretary (now relocated), Mrs. Mary Guydon, as Corresponding Secretary (deceased February 1986), Mrs. Fannie Allen as Treasurer, Mrs. Bernice Donalds as Assistant Treasurer, Mrs. Minell Harrison as Devotion Leader, Mrs. Anne Raaf (now relocated), Mrs. Geraldine Robinson and Mrs. Shirley DAuchan as President from 1984 to 1986; Mrs. Juanita Jones, Corresponding Secretary, Mrs. Minell Harrison as Vice-president, Mrs. Leslie Chambers as President in 1986; Ruth James as Recording Secretary in 1983, Mrs. Jessie Macon as Devotion Leader 1989 to 1990.

Dr. Brazell Carter was an is our Medical Consultant serving faithfully from 1978 to present. Dr. Carter is very active conducting seminars each second Sunday morning concerning medical conditions, once monthly blood pressure checks are also offered; also Dr. Carter renders free service to ill persons during worship services.

The purpose of the Nurse's Task Force is to provide First Aid, condolence during periods of grief, secure Paramedics, and through God's help, we will serve as Humanitarians in that we may grow in spiritual understanding and character, and become better able to more effectively serve both God and Mankind.

We started young, but now we are like "The Old Ship of Zion."
